Spirit of the Coorong  Discovery Cruise is our 3.5 hour cruise which takes you past the Murray Mouth and into the Coorong National Park for 1 guided walk.

Our Discovery Cruise departs from the Main Wharf in the old river port town of Goolwa. A delicious lunch of cold meats and salads is served with tea or coffee (special meals are available by prior request – vegetarian, gluten free etc) once you are on board.

Cruise to the Goolwa Barrage, through the lock and into the Coorong National Park to view the mouth of the River Murray. From the mouth the cruise heads into the pristine waters of the Coorong, past the spectacular white sand dunes and bird life, as your captain provides an informative and entertaining commentary on the passing scenes.
Disembark for a guided walk through the sand dunes of the Younghusband Peninsula to the undisturbed white sandy beaches of the Great Southern Ocean. Along the walk your guide will talk about the cockling industry here, the sand dune flora and fauna and how the Aboriginal people lived in the area.
On return to the boat, cruise further into the Coorong to see another of the barrages that separate the Coorong from Lake Alexandrina. Your captain will explain the man-made barrage and lock system that extends along the River Murray and tell you of the associated benefits and environmental impacts.
Afternoon tea is served as the cruise returns past the imposing sand dunes and back through the lock to the Goolwa Wharf where the cruise ends.

As you cruise your captain provides an informative and entertaining commentary on the passing scenes, bird-life, and history of the area and the role of the locks in maintaining the river environment.
At the Murray Mouth go ashore for a walk (subject to water levels and weather conditions) before rejoining the boat for the cruise back through the lock to the Goolwa wharf.

From Goolwa, aboard our historic timber fantail “MV MARANUI”, enjoy a 1 hour river cruise. Highlights include: Wharf Precinct, Goolwa Barrage, the new “Coorong Quays” (marina), seals, birds, bridges, ever-changing scenery & expert commentary.

“MV Maranui” is a historical 1800’s fantail timber launch, that has been beautifully restored.

Enjoy a 1 hour scenic river cruise.

Keep a look out for fur seals, pelicans and cormorants swimming and resting by the barrage. We then cruise into a man made inland marina, “Coorong Quays”, past stunning waterfront properties, under bridges, past luxury boats, before returning to the Goolwa Wharf.

Please â€œCheck In” at our Main Wharf, Goolwa Office, 15 mins prior to departure time.

Boarding will commence approximately 5 minutes prior to departure time.

The Maranui departs form the Historic Trading Wharf at Goolwa andcruises up the western side of the Goolwa Riverbank heading south to the historic Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club, along the way historic buildings and river stories are shared.  The boat then crosses the channel to the Goolwa Barrage, here we visit the local Long Nosed Fur Seal colony as they rest from an evenings fishing.  After visiting the seals we head over to Coorong Quays Marina where we visit the spectacular marina and see the river bird sanctuary areas contained within the marina.  From the Marina the boat heads down to the iconic Hindmarsh Island Bridge and back to the Historic Port of Goolwa.
